FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: City Battles Blight with Neighborhood Blitzes

MARION, IN: (July 29th, 2016) – The City of Marion Code Enforcement Department, Citywide Maintenance Department and the Grant County Sheriff’s Inmate Work Crew are again joining forces to conduct what they call neighborhood blitzes in addition to carrying out demolitions to battle blight.

One was conducted this week on two vacant properties in the 1800 block of South Branson Street. The collaborative team hopes to continue the blitzes in order to reduce blight and create safer, cleaner neighborhoods.

Marion Promotes Examples of Community Champions in “Champion of the Month” Campaign

MARION, IN: (July 29th, 2016) – Shortly after announcing the new Marion slogan, “City of Champions,” in May, the City is busy working to educate the community by sharing living examples of champions. Mayor Jess Alumbaugh emphasized when announcing the new slogan, “It’s not about being a winner or being victorious. The definition we are focusing on of a ‘champion’ is: to fight for a cause, or one who fights for a cause.

Splash House Open Weekends Only, Starting August 6th

MARION, IN: (July 26th, 2016) – Beginning August 6th, the Splash House will be open on weekends only as local schools begin to take session for fall. The weekend-only schedule is normal protocol for the Splash House since attendance normally dies down, mainly due to students returning to school.

Hours at the Splash House will not change during the weekends-only schedule.

City of Marion Proposes to Save Taxpayer Dollars by Creating More Accessible and Efficient Leaf Pickup Method

MARION, IN: (July 21st, 2016) – The Citywide Maintenance (Street) Department is proposing a new method for leaf pickup starting this fall, saving tens of thousands in taxpayer dollars while providing a more convenient and accessible pickup process to Marion residents.

MARION, IN: (July 21st, 2016) – A comprehensive road improvement project in Marion was be completed three months ahead of schedule, providing improved quality of life and safer travel for surrounding residents, businesses, college students, and those who pass through.

Road Closures to Begin Tomorrow (7/20/16) for Railroad Work

Wednesday (7/20) till approximately Monday (7/25): Norfolk Southern Railroad will have the R/R Crossing at E. 11th Street and the R/R Crossing at Branson & Washington Streets closed for repairs.

Detour signs will be posted to redirect traffic while the work is being done.
