Marion Selected for Statewide Entrepreneur Project

MARION, IN – The Refinery and the City of Marion, are pleased to announce that Marion, Indiana has been chosen to participate in the Launch Indiana Community Entrepreneurial Mapping Project. This statewide program which is undertaken in conjunction with Ball State University’s Building Better Communities Program, consists of a series of community interviews which are designed to identify people, programs, and organizations which can help innovation driven entrepreneurs advance their business ideas and reduce obstacles to success. In addition the interviews can uncover opportunities for growth throughout the entrepreneurial community. Throughout 2016 ten communities will partake in this mapping project and all of the results are mapped on a centralized public map on

“Cities were chosen for this program based on their current level of community entrepreneurial involvement, enthusiasm to participate by elected officials, and tools that were already in place that we could help build upon.” said Jason Whitney, Launch Indiana Program Manager. “The Refinery is gaining momentum every month and our selection committee really wanted to partner with them to add some value to the work they have been doing.”

According to Alexis Dierker, Director of Community Relations for The Refinery, the Mapping Project is a great tool to learn more about how The Refinery can help Grant County. “There are so many incredible leaders, businesses, and organizations in our town doing really impactful things. This data will be excellent in helping us to identify the ways we can all work together for our common goal of building up our community and providing opportunities”. Dierker says this is also another great connection to state agencies. “Working closely with Jason and Launch Indiana will be another connection to state resources and a great way to bring them into Grant County.”

The Mapping Project will be a partnership with the Grant County Economic Growth Council, City of Marion, Community Foundation of Grant County, and will include input from other local leaders and organizations. The interviews, to be conducted at The Refinery, are expected to take place towards the end of May or early June and will last two days. “We are excited to showcase The Refinery and collaborate with local and state agencies,” said Dierker.
