Patrons Pleased with Tennis Court Makeover
MARION, IN: (June 12, 2016) – The City of Marion last week finished a much needed makeover of the tennis courts in Matter Park. The overhaul began last fall and included excavation of the old asphalt, newly laid asphalt, fresh paint (in blue & green representing USTA US Open), new fencing and wall.
“It’s been 20 years since work has been done on these courts,” explained Doug Porter, president of the Grant County Community Tennis Association, who was conducting tennis camp there last week. “These courts have always been the city’s home for tennis. Now, they are once again. Matter Park is a great place to play.”
Parks Department Director Belinda Hussong reported that 5 of the 8 courts, which are the main front-facing courts, were completed. Now, they are seeking funding to finish the other 3 courts and hopefully add new lighting for night-time games.
“I’m just so thankful to everyone involved and for the community’s patience with us. The wait was well worth it,” added Hussong.
