City & Chamber to Hold Ribbon Cutting for Gardens of Matter Park Expansion, the Meadow
MARION, IN: (July 14th, 2016) – Tomorrow marks the official opening of the Gardens of Matter Park expansion, the Meadow. The expansion adds four acres to the two-acre Gardens area for a total of six acres of beautiful gardens and marvelous green setting. There are several gardens and gathering places within the Meadow including the national award-winning Butterfly Garden (a partnership with the Garden Club of Marion), the Topiary Garden (in partnership with the Quilters Hall of Fame), the Children’s Vegetable Garden (in partnership with the Purdue Extension Office Master Gardeners) and the Frog Fountain. The Meadow also features new a pavilion with built-in outdoor kitchen, new restrooms, native plant area, and various outdoor seating.
Newly named Gardens Director Doug Darga, Assistant Gardens Director Julia Glessner, and multiple volunteers have been working diligently to make the expansion successful and as breathtaking as the original Gardens. The Gardens, including the new Meadow, is a public space, but reservations can be made for any area and a variety of competitive options are available. The Gardens, the Meadow, and in some cases both areas are already being rented out, and the venue is under popular demand with bookings into 2018. “We’re so thankful for those who have been involved in making this happen. Marion needs the Gardens as something to be proud of. It means so much knowing that people love this place and are enjoying it,” said Darga.
The Gardens are one of only six Proven Winners Signature Gardens, a rare and prestigious designation given to professional gardens throughout the country.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 5pm in the Meadow while festivities begin for An Evening in the Gardens (4-10pm), the 3rd annual fundraiser for the venue. If you would like to give to the Gardens of Matter Park, you may donate to their endowment fund through the Community Foundation of Grant County.
