Thanks to the volunteer work of a retired firefighter, the Marion Fire Department was awarded a grant for nearly $144,000 in new safety gear for all firefighters.
MARION, IN: (Aug. 5th, 2016) – Grant County State Farm agents teamed up this week to improve and sustain Marion Fire Department’s arson dog program. When the seven agents learned from Fire Prevention Officer Brandon Eckstein that the department had unfulfilled needs for the safety and well-being of “Jersey,” the arson detection canine that State Farm had funded exactly one year ago, they proudly stepped up to the plate.
MARION, IN: (July 7th, 2016) – After more than a decade of sitting in a garage, a 1930 Marion Fire Truck in the Marion Fire Department’s possession has been revived, thanks to many hours of volunteer labor. City of Marion Mechanic, Kinnie Sollars, and his 13-year-old son, have been devoting time outside of work and school in order to restore the iconic piece of history.
MARION, IN: (April 7th, 2016) – Firefighter Dale Owen will retire after 29 years of serving the Marion Fire Department. Private Owen joined the Department in 1987, and during his tenure, served as the Maintenance Officer and on the Hazmat Tech team.
MARION, IN: (March 24th, 2016) – Marion Fire Prevention Officer & Former Fire Chief, Robert “Bobby” Johnson has retired after 36 years of service with the City of Marion Fire Department. Johnson began as a Private Firefighter for the department in 1979, and since has served as a dispatcher, fire investigator, prevention officer, and even Fire Chief during the Ron Mowery administration (1993-1999).
